Just the Girls... for Now
I've had the privilege of being a family photographer across two continents, several states, and throughout many years now. My favorite role is that of a true family photographer - for my own family. I've had willing subjects and models since my youngest niece was born, and I've been behind the camera for each of my sister's maternity photos and each of her children's newborn sessions. This time, we set up for a maternity session at Broadlands Wetland Preserve here in Virginia, just as flowers are starting to peek out.
It was truly a family affair - my mom helping corral and tease out smiles behind me, my sister and her two daughters - just the girls this time. Except this session is the last for being only a girl mom - a little boy will be joining the family very soon! We played up all the flowery, girly, pretty poses with pear blossoms, red buds, and natural backdrops. We took solo maternity photos, some with all the girls together, just the sisters, and some with the youngest and her mama (because they're inseparable most times). We took a walk around the Preserve, taking time to watch the ducks, geese, and even some frogs, listening to red wing blackbirds and cardinals all around. With the trees, wooden viewing area, iron bridge, and pathways, there was plenty to see and lots of options for backdrops.
While I'm partial, I love the light and airy feel to these images, and the smiles that come along with them. I'm so excited to see how a little boy adds love to this sweet family, and to see how his big sisters help him as he grows!
