The Dlabal Family - MomCo Fundraiser
Summer of Laughter
To say that this spring and summer season have been unusual here in NOVA would be an understatement. We've had so much rain and very little heat thus far, even halfway into June! Many of my previously scheduled sessions have had to reschedule, often due to weather. On our third attempt, the Dlabal family made it stick! After a rainy morning and in between light drizzles, we met up at the Broadlands Wetlands Preserve in Ashburn. Mom and I know each other from our mutual mom group, The MomCo at CFC - a local chapter of an international organization made to encourage and support moms in building relationships and community.
With three spunky kids, all coming from art camp and with energy to spare, we toured a few of the picturesque locations within the preserve. The overlook "pier" gave us a bit of a show with a large turtle coming to say hello - a great treat, but a bit of a distraction, especially for the youngest little boy. I was so surprised at all of the personality and joy that came from these kids from the very beginning - no hesitation or shyness at meeting me at all! We continued on, letting them run along the paths in between set ups.
The iron bridge turned out to be my favorite shots of the session, with the pastel colors everyone was wearing (complete with "fancy" dresses for the girls - which I LOVED) and the overcast sky, it just came together beautifully. I also brought along some flowers, since our original session was supposed to be a spring session with a flower field. I intentionally chose one with three sunflowers, one for each child, as well as an assortment of colors. We did a few shots of the kids with the sunflowers and some family ones, too. The purples in the bouquet popped so nicely with their outfit and the natural backdrop! We ended at one of the footpaths with one last family pose before the lure of donuts became too strong.
This session was dynamic, with each child eager to show who they were and to be the star of the show - it was a delight! Thank you for supporting The MomCo at CFC, and thank you for sharing your smiles with me!
