Thompson Family - Summer Session
Embracing The Day
As part of my "mom community," my MomCo group has become a backbone for me over the last 2 years. As a way to give back this year, I've offered to do some fundraising sessions - one of which is this one taken at the lovely Short Hill Springs flower farm in Hillsboro, VA. Katie and I attend MomCo together, and our boys love playing together during playdates and after meetings! As the family is expecting another little one this coming August, this was the perfect time to capture the family with a photo session.
Short Hill Springs is a hidden gem in Western Loudoun - started just a few years ago, this incredible venue offers rural views, an ancient oak, and a variety of natural backdrops as well as seasonal flowers. While we just missed the last of the peonies (thanks to some heavy rains) and the June wildflowers are still waiting for the heat to bloom, the lush backdrop still offered a lot for our time. Katie and her family brought along the two family dogs, too - making it a full family affair!
We began along a path underneath a small stand of trees that leads to a large field rimmed by a wattle fence. With bright colors and big smiles, everyone was so warm and ready for the session right from the get-go! I snapped a few of just Katie and Trace, too - these sometimes get lost in family sessions, but I love these, especially adding in maternity style poses. We kept going to the end to capture the wide field in the background with some fun and casual poses with Rhett up on Dad's shoulders and some adorable kisses. As we headed back to toward the small parking area, the dogs had their moment to shine. Rhett lovingly touching both pooches' heads, big smile on his face (there may have been some silly phrases coming from the photographer), and Mom and Dad just behind. I love how happy everyone truly was for the session - giggles and go-with-the-flow make for so much more fun and better images, too!
I am so grateful to have captured some sweet images for the Thompsons, and I'll greatly miss the community and friendship I've had with Katie as I take a hiatus from NOVA for a 2 year assignment in Africa! I wish you all the best and so much joy as you continue to add to the family!
