Blazing A Trail

I had the privilege to meet a lovely pair as part of the Hope for Grieving Families fundraiser: Heather and her child Glory. Glory is in their last year of high school (a year early, too!) and ready to blaze their own trail for the next chapter of life. Since school photos aren't always a great representation of who a person is, we used our session together to let Glory show more of who they are.

It's not often that I meet an individual who is both unique and bold. Glory is both of these - arriving at the session in all black, sporting a long black coat, and ready to go. I always ask if there are any visions, poses, or particular wants for a session, and I was given a blank slate on posing. That said, it quickly became clear that Glory knew about themself and what felt right for them. We went with a more serious tone, and I have to say, I LOVE the outcome!

We stayed close to the lake and used the setting at Lake Fairfax Park to our advantage. A small "boardwalk," benches, and brick walls all lended themselves as backdrops for some more artful portraits. This is fitting, as Glory is looking at options in the arts as a possibility for college programs for next year (I shared that I went to a liberal arts college and had to choose between art and communication - and I'd go back and learn more in a heartbeat) at several schools. Paint on their pants, a personally designed and cut hairstyle - bold and unafraid to be who they are.

In the end, I snuck in a few photos of Glory with mom, and we wrapped up the session together. I wish you all the best in the next journey, Glory. May you continue to blaze your own trail!
