Documenting the Days
Life flies by. I still feel like I'm in my late 20s (except my back, which seems to be about 60 these days), and I'm still shocked when I realize how long it's been since I graduated from college. One of the best ways to slow down and remember the days going by is with a photo. How often do we scroll through our phones and see a moment we'd forgotten about, look at an old picture of ourselves or our kids and marveled at how young or how small we were?
I love being the family photographer. In all seriousness, it's a joy to be the one to capture smiles for my relatives - and being able to do that often for my sister's family now that they've got a newer little one is so much fun!
While I was visiting Western NY this summer, we took an evening and headed to Black Creek Park. This particular park has seen our faces grow. I remember taking friends here in the winter when I'd just received my first DSLR camera. I did a "surprise" photo shoot with my oldest niece when she was five. We've been here for baby showers and graduation parties many times. This time, just some updated family photos.
I aimed for fun, since family sessions can sometimes feel like work for the parents - especially when wrangling a toddler and a pre-teen! I mixed in some goofy poses and more candid prompts to get wiggles out, and it also helped everyone relax and smile. The weather wasn't too hot, and we made it in time with a nice warm glow from the sun as dusk closed in. My nieces loved the space to run and play, and the oldest is quite the protector of her younger sister! I was able to photograph the family, just the kids, just the parents, and even a few individual photos of the girls. The smiles and joy on everyone's face made it worth the trip - and one of our fastest so far!
I'm grateful to have family that trusts me with their photos, and who champion my business to boot! These were some of the first faces I ever photographed, and being the one to document as days and years go by is an honor.
Love you all!
