Family Time!
In the whirlwind that often accompanies holidays - travel, logistics for family visits, the bustle of buying and wrapping gifts, time can rush by so quickly. For those parents expecting college-aged kids to come home and spend time, the days can sometimes be numbered. For the Schofield Family, in between Christmas and New Year's was a sweet spot for getting everyone back under one roof and available - specifically for a family photo session! I was pleased when the family contacted me, knowing that these sorts of events can be so hard to plan and find a photographer for during the holiday season. We worked out a plan for an afternoon session in their home, and I brought background options to go with outfits and moods.
As opposed to many of my clients who opted for the "neutral" look this past season, the Schofields went bold and bright - a lovely array of rainbow colors all tied together by a cute multi-colored octopus shirt, donned by the youngest of the crew. I set up a bright pastel background (blues, purples, and some gray/white) that would compliment their colors well without being distracting, set up my studio lighting, and away we went! Their space worked out well, even for a family of eight and a little black dog. Not everyone was feeling 100%, so we gave lots of grace and space as needed, and even with some runny noses, we were able to get a few smiles from everyone along the way. I was so impressed with how the kids each helped to rally the few that were more resistant to my goofy jokes! A few family poses, individuals of each child, and some of the kids all together were covered rather easily in our allotted 40 minute ("Regular") session.
After these, we headed outside. It was brisk, though we avoided any sort of precipitation! Here I snapped a few pictures of just the parents together, and some of them individually, too! With a beautiful yard space and a bench, a few of the kids opted for a second photo as well. I love the contrast and variety that it added to the overall session! It complimented the family and their individual and unique personalities so well, and the style of the overall session really came through as their own.
It was a pleasure to work with the Schofield family! I was welcomed into their home, given a small glimpse into their family, and able to capture some memories of everyone all together over the holiday break. I hope 2024 goes well for all of you!
