At the Peak of Color

The rollercoaster of weather temperatures in our area this fall 2023 has made it so hard to predict peak colors, avoid rain, and beat the heat - but with a little "luck," this session found a perfect combination! I met up with Elaine, Apryl, and their adorable pup Ollie at the Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The hour-long travel time was worth it, as the day was set to hit 80* by the afternoon (is that normal for October?!), and the morning had a hint of a chill that quickly disappeared.

We started out with the beautiful lake behind them, catching the reflections with the morning sun - a brilliant set of hues stretched across the water! Ollie spent the time galavanting in the dewed grass, but we were able to coax him into a few photos, and his cute little face is totally worth a bit of mud! After some snuggles, Ollie got a break from the limelight and we headed into the trails to create some softer backgrounds. I had such a great time getting to know Elaine and Apryl - learning about their own side-gig (check out Go Art & Fun), past and current careers, and my favorite - the "how did you meet" story. In between all our chit chat, I made sure to capture the two of them interacting, both candid and posed. We opted for a few different poses along the way, finding a fallen log to sit on, catching a different glimpse of the lake, and nestling under some beautiful yellow trees with the sun poking through!

I loved the way the light during this session made the couple glow - the warm tones, (and perfect neutral toned outfits, just like I recommend!), gentle light, and fall foliage were just right! Thanks for letting me capture a few memories for you, Elaine and Apryl, and I hope you enjoy these as much as I do!
