A Time for Gathering

It's the season of holidays - one after another, it might seem. We spend weeks planning, prepping, making meals, buying gifts... but we know, all the work and effort is really about one thing: being with family. This Thanksgiving, I had the opportunity to work with a neighbor of mine as she gathered family at her home to share a meal.

Amy and her sister Kirsten came together the day before Thanksgiving to share the traditional meal. While not all the family could be present, Amy wanted to capture some family moments with those who were here. We met outside, my toddler in tow as my "helper." Everyone looked great in their outfits; neutrals always work well, and this family did a great job pairing solids with patterns without going overboard. With a few colors still in the leaves, we set about our task.

Group shots always happen first. It gets everyone primed for more photos all at once, and lets people relax just a bit before we break down into groups. We did a few different poses, then I took some photos of each family group as well as some of just the kids, just the boys (men included), and just the girls (women, too!). With my three year old cheesing as if he were part of the family and running around with sticks that were more like large tree limbs, smiles were easy to come by. All was said and done within the 20 minute session, and they were off to check on the turkey.

I really appreciate you all letting me capture some memories for you this holiday season, and I hope you get to gather together again in the coming month to celebrate together! Happy Thanksgiving!
