Family, Foliage, Fun!

As some of you know, fall in the DMV area is often a long season, with peak colors coming at the end of October and stretching into November. With the ups and downs of hot (80*!) and cool (50*) this October, peak foliage hit almost without warning and has already begun to fade. The Hu family contacted me with a desire to catch some color in their photos, so we worked quickly to find a location and time that worked out. We agreed on the beautiful Lake Fairfax Park in Reston, VA. As you'll see, we were just in time!

The Hu family found me on Facebook through a neighborhood group - and while they live in Maryland and I'm based in Ashburn, Virginia, they did their research: they checked out my website alongside the recommendation they had received, and felt that our styles matched. I love working with families like this because my work is about relationships: the relationship between the family members, and the family's relationship to me. I prefer to capture families with a mix of posed and candid shots, and I shoot true-to-color and deliver images without a lot of color variation or pre-set "filters" (which are super awesome in many settings and for lots of photographers, too! Just not my style.), so my goal at this session was to do just that. The muted tones of their outfits highlighted the faces of these two cuties - did you SEE those adorable pom-poms?! Everything from their outfits to their interactions was gentle and full of an inner joy. The youngest brought along his toy car, and it absolutely made an appearance in a few photos! The older sister was so eager to show her smile, and she enjoyed guiding her brother as we posed. Too cute!

Walking through the areas of the park where we set up for photos allowed us to gather some color behind them, to capture the fall season in its essence as a backdrop to a family photo session. We had a 40 minute session together, so we were able to get multiple poses and groupings throughout the time: mom with the kids, dad with the kids, individuals, mom and dad (!!!), and the essential family photo, too! I had so much fun making faces and working with these youngsters as well as the parents for this fall session. Can't wait to see you all again and watch how everyone grows!
