Kuhn Family Photos - April 3, 2023
A Venture into Spring
It's already April in Northern Virginia, and we dipped back into "normal" Springtime temperatures, with chilly winds and flower petals scattered about - the early cherry blossoms fading after some strong winds. Before the weather dipped, I was able to work with this beautiful family with sunny skies and a new-to-me location. We ventured out in the afternoon during Spring Break week to catch all the kiddos and leave the weekend for fun.
The Kuhn Family brought their smiles and personalities to the session - something I enjoy as I work with families and kids. I have the privilege of unwrapping tentative dispositions as we chat between poses, or finding just the right silly phrase to pull out the "real" smiles and get the sparkles in their eyes. This group was no exception! "Cheese pizza" and "chicken nuggets" were the go-to phrases. From mom and dad to each child (teenager down to 10 months - a really fun age range to pose together!), everyone found their smiles!
This client-chosen location was at the Stone Bridge in Centerville, VA, a historic site embedded in the Manassas National Battlefield Park. Just a stone's throw from the Bull Run Winery, the location offered a variety of background options, even with the afternoon sun. We were able to pose with the earth-toned stone bridge, fields of flowers and trees not yet awake for the season, and the Bull Run running past. Thanks to mom's outfit planning (I always offer some recommendations and welcome texts and photos ahead of time to help, if wanted), the girls stole the show in simple pink/yellow/blue floral dresses, which the boys complemented in yellow polos, and mom and dad rounded out the scheme with solid blue and white. The pop of color worked so well with the more muted colors behind them!
Working with kids and families is truly an honor; I love watching the interactions and teasing out smiles and character that I can capture for the family. This session offered me a respectful young man, a spunky six year old, a sassy four year old, and a 10 month old with the most precious crinkly smile (that she graced me with a few times!). Family sessions can be tough for clients - dealing with normal daily routine changes, camera-shy kids (or parents...), and keeping focus throughout the time as hunger and boredom creep in. We worked quickly, shooting different groupings at each backdrop, keeping the mood light and casual and chatting in between. I always aim to give families the space to breathe and relax so that everyone feels comfortable throughout the session. These guys and gals were champs! Thank you for allowing me to get to know you all just a little bit
