All the Feels...
There have been a lot of birthday sessions so far in 2024 for me! I love getting a chance to help my clients celebrate by capturing moments they can look back on, print out for parties, and share with friends and family. For this session, I got the best of all the things: celebration, cake, AND family! This little one is the youngest of the littles in my extended family, so we let her take the spotlight.
Lainey is ALWAYS full of personality. Her expressions and body language make sure that you know exactly how she feels and what she wants. She did not disappoint during her photos - just look at all these faces! We got to laugh, chase, tickle, and re-set so many times with this very active and mobile one year old. Starting with a simple background and the birthday girl in her special t-shirt, we set up in the living room. I had so many quizzical looks at the beginning - what are these lights? Why is it flashing at me? What's this big blanket thing? But as most toddlers do, she settled right in! We did a quick outfit change before her cake outfit - a swap to black and a floral dress. The O-N-E letters tend to grab attention, and they did this time, too. Lainey loved knocking them down!
At the end, I set up the third backdrop for her cake smash photos. A homemade cake from her grandma and an adorable topper took the stage, and the curiosity and exploration began! By the time we got to the end of Lainey's patience, the cake was only slightly mangled, but time was up - she let us know with crossed arms and tears that she was ready to exit stage right. All in all, I love taking pictures of my family members - there's something about being able to catch the expressions I know and love, and to have a few extra hands around to help with corralling toddlers and getting them to look at the camera!
