Engagement Session - Rich and Lizza
Perfect Timing!
Once in a while, you can look back on a moment, or even a few days past and see how timing was just right for a particular event. I had just such an evening with this special session and a special couple. Lizza and I have known each other for many years, going back to different states and seasons of our lives, two single gals pursing dreams. In the few years, big changes have occurred. I've gotten married and had a baby and moved; she's changed careers, and found the love of her life, Rich! When Lizza reached out to ask me to do an engagement session for the two of them, I jumped at the chance! The couple had a need for a quick turnaround for the images, so we scheduled it only a week out with an option for a rain date. In that week, what we couldn't have expected happened: Canadian wildfires and prevailing winds wrought smoke, haze, and air pollution down the east coast of the US - including Baltimore, Maryland, where our session was scheduled. I got a text from Lizza a few days out and we opted for the rain date simply due to the chance of rain on our original date. What great timing! By the time our session date came, air quality had improved significantly, the evenings were a bit warmer, and there was no rain!
This past Saturday, I hopped into my car with my trusty Nikon camera and drove an hour and a half through weekend traffic to the Inner Harbor in Baltimore. There are such treasures here for photography - water, great views of the city, and all sorts of fun backdrops. We even crossed paths with a wedding party at one of our locations! We started at the American Visionary Art Museum; the walls and features are completely unique all around the outside of this building. A fun glass mosaic wall, gardens, brick and ivy... I couldn't ask for more! Then we walked up Federal Hill amid the visitors and residents soaking up a beautiful June evening. The skyline was picturesque, even if the sun's angle was a bit harsh. We made it work! A true Baltimore engagement session isn't complete without a photo with the iconic Domino Sugars sign, so we snapped a few there before heading to the Baltimore Museum of Industry for a few last shots. All in all, it was a splendid session with a couple that was laid back, ready to explore and have fun with the time and the poses.
As mentioned above, this was a special session for me. Being honored with the task of photographing family and friends is a big deal. It shows that they value my work and time beyond the established relationship we have, and believe they will get a product that will meet their expectations. During our conversations about what the client was looking for, Lizza and Rich expressed a desire for an engagement photo session but realized they also had a deadline to meet. With family and friends scattered about the country, invitations (with a photo or two) needed to be sent out this week to give an appropriate amount of time for RSVPs and planning. Happy to oblige with scheduling and a quick turnaround, I wanted to help so the couple could get those invites in the mail! The timing worked out so well, and I was glad that travel, dates, and weather all aligned for me to be able to work with this beautiful couple!
It is a privilege to be photograph friends for important occasions. I am SO HAPPY for you, Lizza and Rich, and I can't wait to see how life unfolds for you both as you enjoy the journey and adventure of marriage together, hand in hand!
