Winter Wonder
With unseasonably warm December days so far, Northern Virginia has been seemingly pleasant! We've had overcast skies and temperatures that allow for outdoor sessions without coats - a perfect combination for some cute holiday photo sessions! The overcast skies allow for a perfectly diffused light that doesn't need flash, and we have options since there are no angles or directions with harsh sunlight or shadows. For the Yemane Family, this was perfect!
I love working in Northern Virginia, but I was pleasantly surprised when Mom contacted me - they chose to drive all the way out to Loudoun County from Washington DC! We chose a lovely setting, and I am so glad they made the trip out so I could meet them! They showed up at Claude Moore Park in Sterling, VA with holiday style in beautiful neutrals with a pop of color! Mom wore a beautiful plum dress and the boys (and dad) donned ivory sweaters with darker khakis, which paired with mom's cardigan. It all tied together well, so we used the softer grays of the barns and the natural earthtones of some evergreens and the fields around the park to complement the color palate. As we headed toward the first location for some pictures, a small hand slipped into mine, and soon I was walking down the path with a two and a three year old next to me - it was so precious! The boys were full of energy and loved the holiday props - a large wreath, some oversized ornaments, and some fake snowballs! The wreath worked well to keep them together and still, and the shiny ornaments were a quick favorite! We worked through some family poses along with individuals of the toddlers and a few together throughout our session time, working quickly with two littles with short attention spans. Even with the energy, we caught lots of smiles and family time!
Claude Moore is a great backdrop at all times of year, but I especially love it during the holidays for its versatility. As you can see from this session, it allows for the beauty of the family to shine! The Yemanes were gracious and happy to work with my poses and ideas, and their flexibility and smiles are what made this an easy, fun photo session! I wish the a merry holiday season with lots of joy!
