Adding to the Family
This year has been full of newborns for me! This sweet family connected with me through my own local MomCo group - a wonderful international organization that supports moms and helps the build community. I've been connected with Rebecca for this season, and knowing she was pregnant, it was an honor when she asked me to take newborn pictures for their latest addition!
We started out setting up in the living room - always a bit of "tetris" with townhomes (as I myself can attest to!), but we found just enough space. Big sister was cautiously curious, so I invited her in to watch me set up, knowing a bit of a warm up period would be helpful before trying to take family photos at the start of our time together. She warmed up quickly, with the help of some stuffed "friends," and even let me do a quick lighting test shot with her! Then we called the rest of the family in while little Kate slept on - mom, dad, and a younger brother. A few family poses, some with mom and dad, and then it was Kate's turn to shine.
She clearly knew that something was up, keeping her eyes open through the first set of backdrops. Once we tucked her into a sweet little swaddle that mom had picked out just for the occasion, added a bit of milk, and some white noise, she fell asleep. We swapped backdrops and wraps a few times, working quickly to keep her warm. I love that mom picked out the girly pinks and purples! I had brought headbands, and we chatted back and forth about which ones worked with each set up, talking about life, the various birth stories of our children, and catching up on life stuff in between.
By the end of our time together, Kate was done and ready for another bottle and nap, and the two older siblings were ready for lunch! Many thanks to the grandparents who helped keep them occupied during the time :). The session was relaxed, with such a calm presence in the home. I'm sure little Kate will have the best of times growing up with this tender, loving family!
Welcome to the world, little one!
