The Most Beautiful Smile

Part of my process for booking a session for new clients includes a questionnaire with a few questions so I can prepare and get a feel for the family, what you are looking for, and any important images they are looking to capture. When I received the questionnaire for this client, i was able to put pieces together after an initial contact and FB messenger conversation. This sweet boy's aunt did all the leg-work for mom and dad: found a photographer, figured out details, got the contract and questionnaire all filled out, and made sure they knew what needed to happen once I arrived. What a thoughtful, helpful, and kind gesture for a tired mama and family with a newborn!

I always love finding out who else will be part of the newborn's session. For this teeny babe (only 9 days old!), he had his mama and daddy, big brother, a set of grandparents, and two aunts who all wanted to make sure to be in a picture with the newest member of the family. When I arrived, I was greeted at the front door, and family members offered to help carry equipment. This is such a blessing for in-home sessions: I often have 2-3 loads of equipment/props to bring in, toting to and from a parking spot to the home. In this case, it meant lots of stairs into a top 2-level townhouse!

Once I was set up, the parents asked me to do a few in the nursery upstairs, to match photos they had from 5 years ago with their first son. I was able to bring my portable studio light up and set up both in the nursery and the main bedroom to help achieve these matching images. I love the idea of having side-by-side photos with both their sons as newborns! As a bonus, I got to hold this precious little boy, wrap him up in a neutral wrap, and carry him in - there really is nothing like holding an infant only days old. And he was such a sweet little thing, so tiny and delicate. After we captured what mom and dad were looking for, we went downstairs with a very sleepy and cozy baby (he loved being all wrapped up!) and did his solo cameo photographs with a few different backgrounds before adding in some family.

For being brand new, this tot was such a trooper! He barely cried, and only needed to be fed for a little bit, making this session such a breeze. Big brother was a great helper, with such a charismatic smile (and maybe a bit mischievous, too); he was gentle and adoring of his new little brother. It was a pleasure to work with this family, to meet all the relatives, and be welcomed in to their home. The littlest truly melted my heart (oh, to hold such a darling boy in my arms!), and I am looking forward eagerly to watching him grow! Welcome to the world!
