Baby Theo - The Wehrmann Family
So Much Excitement!
I LOVE in-home sessions, most especially for newborns. There's a beautiful intimacy that comes from being invited into a home where all of life has been uprooted and is being remade in the days, weeks, and even months after a new little one's arrival. In this most personal space, families allow me to catch a small glimpse of real life as we set up in kitchens and bedrooms, shepherd siblings in and out of poses, and weave in between pets, trips to the kitchen, and all the other life stuff that happens in a home. For the Wehrmanns, we set a session date before this little boy's arrival, and then planned the gender details once he was born. They graciously welcomed me in to their home, with two older siblings, a set of grandparents, and a dog who watched from outside the whole time.
I set up in the dining area (a table displaced into the living room), then we shifted upstairs to the master bedroom for the family photos. Everyone piled on to the bed, and while Isaac took a bit of cajoling and tickling, we managed to get a few different family poses, some with just the kiddos and little Theo, and even pulled in the unsuspecting grandparents for a few photos! Theo slept until the last moment, deciding he was hungry while we transitioned back downstairs. This blend of lifestyle and studio style portraits works well with an in-home session, too!
After a few poses with just mom and dad and their newest little one, Dad took the older two out to the playground, and Mom and I hung out with Theo for his solo time. With all the excitement, he decided that food was much more his speed than photos, and we took several breaks to help him out, which fits right in to how most sessions go! (This is why newborn sessions take a bit more time, too.). We selected a few different backgrounds and wraps for the little guy, catching some chill expressions and some half sleepy ones. Once he'd had enough, we called it quits. I've learned that patience is key, but listening to mom on knowing when a kiddo is done is much more fruitful than trying for one last pose!
All in all, while this wasn't a dreamy sleepy newborn session, it was full of the sounds of a real family - toddler questions, sparkly boots to show off, a pup anxiously waiting to come and check out the new person, grandparents reading stories, and a tiny babe still getting used to all the excitement. This is what I love about my job! I'm so grateful for the opportunity to capture some memories for this sweet family, and I hope to see more of them throughout the years. Welcome, little Theo!
